My Salvation Testimony and Ministry - Pastor Godfrey Kamwendo
Introduction: In life throughout my childhood I was a self-centred person and I loved myself most than those around me. I had the impression that self-centredness life was the only way of life and strived to achieve in life by own will and effort. There was totally no room in my life for God. Human achievement replaced God's help in my life.
Before Christ: I thought as loved myself most each day, I would sort out some of the problems and difficulties I was facing in life. This was how I was living until 1992. In fact I was seriously involved in secularism. I enjoyed most secular music and social events to the extent that enjoyment took my large part of my life. I completely lost interest in God and church activities. It became worse in 1991, I stopped going to church and concentrated on achieving life desires. I never loved my friends, parents and relatives. Receiving Christ: In October 1992, I came across the gospel of salvation. The message that was preached to me sounded very strange to me. It was from Revelation 3:20. I began to realise I was in serious danger because of my actions and I became aware that I was very far from God and needed to put things right with him. I became very ashamed and sorry for the things I had been doing and said a prayer in which I told God I was sorry for the bad attitude towards friends, parents and relatives. I invited Jesus into my life as my Lord and Saviour. How my life was changed: Things began to to change and I soon realised that I was acting and doing very different things than that which I had been doing in the past. Jesus took away my self-centredness life and I started caring for my friends, parents and relatives as well as others around me. I became a friendly and loving person and soon wanted to share what God had done in my life with my friends in my township. Ministry: In 1997 I felt God's call to serve him full time and I went for theological training to equip myself for God's work. I graduated in 2000 with a Diploma in Theology and Religious Studies. Marriage: On 30th September 2000 I married to my sweet wife Jane. And God has blessed us with a lovely family with lovely children i.e. Maggie and twins-Victory and David. As a couple we joined Sowers International as home based missionaries to serve God in training churches in evangelism, discipleship and church planting using a sketch board. By end 2001 God called us for another challenging ministry. We were appointed to replace late Pastor David Jambo, who went to be with the Lord in November 2001, as Chairman of Rock Springs Baptist Churches. We accepted the position and I enrolled with the University of Malawi, Department of Theology and Religious Studies to equip myself for the post. In 2003 I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Arts Theology and Religious Studies. We doubled our responsibilities. We continued to serve God with Sowers International as well as Rock Springs Baptist Churches. It is now more than six years serving Rock Springs Baptist Churches as Chairman. During the seven years God has enabled us to witness to many and plant more churches. In 2006 God enabled us to plant a vibrant church in Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi. We are now busy pastoring this church. Apart from what we have done for the Lord the past seven years, we plan to move to the southern part of Malawi to develop a church centre for Rock Springs Baptist Churches and centre for Vulnerable Girl Child. This centre will accommodate orphans, abused, isolated girl child. This centre is our priority at the mean time in as far as ministry is concerned.
