Pastor Godfrey Chiundah

One year later I was also allowed to go to a Government Primary School, which was not important in our society because it is believed that in those secular schools they force people to become Christians since the Schools were built by Christian Missionary Organizations. I was the 9th child in our family but only 2 of us were given this favour to go to School and this was the beginning of God's Grace in my life. When I was in Std 8, I had a friend who was a Christian and he used to tell me about Jesus being the Saviour of mankind including me. We would always spend time talking about this Jesus. One day he invited me to a revival meeting where the Minister was preaching about the LOVE of God to the world manifested by sending His son Jesus Christ that Jesus could lay down His life to save me and that he is the way, the truth and the life. I was deeply touched and needed this Jesus. I surrendered my life to Jesus and started following him. He created in me a deep desire to know more about him.

When I disclosed this to my parents they hated me to the maximum and forced me to withdraw otherwise I face the consequences. I was not ready to reverse my decision no matter what. Following my denial to reverse the decision, they persecuted me in so many ways, they refused to give me any support, and they plotted to kill me. When I heard about their plans I ran away from home for 10 years.

While in exile the Lord gave me a lot of grace, somebody picked me from the bush and supported me to go to school, I had a chance of fellowshipping with other Christian believers without fear and some years later, by God's grace I was given an opportunity to go to a Bible college to study God's word. This was one of the greatest moments in my life. Eventually I responded to the call that God called me some years before when I was still in the bush, to be his servant, a minister of his word and a caretaker of his flock. When I completed the Bible training for 3 years, I was ordained a Pastor and God is still using me. I am still facing a lot of persecution from my relatives but my joy and strength is in the Lord. My desire is to see the people of my village reached with the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ.
